After reading all of your comments about the laundry area that will be at the back portion of my walk-in closet, I think I am going to use a different flooring in that area. And as I was considering the possibilities — tile, vinyl, etc. — I asked myself one question. Is there something I’ve wanted to do in our house that I haven’t had the opportunity to do yet?

The answer that immediately came to my mind was PENNY TILE! I love penny tile, but it just hasn’t been right for any area of our house yet. But this laundry area will be pretty small, and I’ll be the only one using it. It will be in an out-of-the-way area, and not in a main traffic area of the house. So this may be my opportunity to finally use penny tile and to do something fun with it.

For example, I love this fun laundry room floor from Jenna Sue Design.

But I also love a simple geometric design like this one from Josephine Jewelry Co.

If I weren’t set on doing wallpaper on the closet ceiling (which I am), I’d probably take a chance and do something like this amazing penny tile floor from Harken Cafe in South Carolina. Is this not amazing?!

I also love this pretty border. This is done with hex tiles, but it could be done with penny tiles as well.

Anyway, I haven’t made any decisions yet, but this is one of the main things that was occuying my mind yesterday as I was sanding PVC boards and assembling shutters for my workshop. That type of work doesn’t challenge my mind at all, so I often find my thought wandering into planning and dreaming about future projects and house details, and that little laundry room floor had me dreaming.

I haven’t decided for sure exactly what I’m going to do, but I do think it would be fun (and probably my only opportunity) to use penny tile. Wouldn’t it be fun if I did a colorful border or design using the same colors from the wallpaper that I’m going to use on the ceiling? I think it would be such a fun surprise hiding behind that 15-lite pocket door separating the two areas.
