On Friday, I shared that I’m leaning towards using pink (or a pinkish coral) paint color in the walk-in closet, and I also want to wallpaper the ceiling. So just for fun (even though I still have a whole lot to do before I can even start on the closet), I’ve been looking at options for wallpaper that I can use on the ceiling and use as a jumping off point for finding a paint color for the walls and closet components.
In last Friday’s post, I ended with a photo of a closet that I thought was so inspiring. It was huge and had a super high ceiling. Mine won’t be huge (compared to that one), and I’ll have an eight-foot ceiling. But I did love the light, bright, wispy appearance of the floral wallpaper on the ceiling, and I also loved the light pink on the cabinets and closets. I love that wallpaper, and I think it would be gorgeous on a ceiling in a closet. But I think it might be a little too pastel for my taste. If you look around my house, you’ll notice that I love color, but it’s very rarely a true pastel color. Some of my colors may border on pastel, some patterns may include pastel, but the overall look is going to have a bit more punch than a pastel palette does.
A good example is the wallpaper in my studio. Because it’s a watercolor look, some of those colors in the wallpaper may be very pastel-adjacent. But the overall look of the wallpaper has a lot more punch to it than a pastel palette would have.
So while I do really like that first wallpaper, I don’t think that pastels are really me. The word that comes to mind is precious. It’s just a little precious for my taste.
And then I came across this one. This is Wild Grasses by Ninola Design on Spoonflower. If it looks familiar, that’s because I bought this wallpaper in the teal colorway (i.e., teal background) to use in the hallway bathroom. And yes, I still plan to use it in the hallway bathroom. But that wouldn’t stop me from using this one with the white background on the closet ceiling. This wallpaper is colorful and fun. It has that watercolor look to it that I love so much. And while it does include some of those pastel colors, the overall look of it isn’t pastel.
This one would be a safe choice. I’ve purchased it once, and I already know I love it. I also really like that it has orange in it. I don’t think the closet necessarily needs to match the bedroom since the two will have the “buffer” of a hallway between them, but I don’t want it to clash with the bedroom, either. So I like that this particular wallpaper has the orange and green and touches of teal while also introducing pink into the mix.
Next up is Floral Splendor from Rebel Walls. I actually saw this wallpaper a while back and ordered a sample. At the time, I had our future dining room (i.e., the current kitchen) in mind, but I’ve since realized that it won’t work for my idea in the dining room. So it’s a free agent now and can be drafted for use in the closet.
I also got pretty excited about May Meadow in the pastel colorway from Rebel Walls. It also has orange and green, as well as pink. I think it would play nicely with the bedroom next door. I know it’s more of a bottom-heavy mural, but the good thing about Rebel Walls is that you can customize the size before ordering. So I would have the flowers “growing” from the two side walls and “growing” towards the midline of the room. I have no idea if that makes sense, but I can picture it in my mind.
Okay, y’all. This one might surprise you, but this wallpaper literally stopped me in my scroll, and I gasped when I saw it. This is Vinum Raspeys from Rebel Walls.
I honestly think this might be my favorite. I’m sitting here in my studio looking at it while also seeing my bird fabric for the headboard spread out on the work table, and they actually look really pretty together. Of course, they won’t be in the same room, but at least they won’t fight each other. This has some orange and teal, but also has reddish pinks.
I can just imagine this on the ceiling. It would feel like I’m standing underneath an arbor that is covered in gorgeous vines. I was surprised at how much I loved this last one. It’s definitely darker than what I would usually think I’d like, but I can imagine it with a pink on the cabinets that’s pulled from that pink that’s in the wallpaper. I think it would be gorgeous!
So anyway, I surprised even myself with that last one. And what surprises me the most is that if I were forced to choose one today and order it, I would choose the last one. Hands down. I think it’s probably one of the most gorgeous wallpapers I’ve ever seen, if not THE most beautiful. Had I seen this wallpaper two years ago, I may have chosen it over the mural I used in our bathroom. That’s how much I love it. I am going to order a sample of it so that I can get an idea of what pink(s) I could use on the cabinets to go with it. That might be a huge factor in whether or not it’s a real option for the closet. But if it doesn’t end up working for the closet ceiling, I might have to find another place for it.
